Chinese Food - OMAKASE ... Divine!!!

You put forward the word degustation, and immediately its fine dining and you are preparing to pay at least RM300-500pp, same for Omakase which is chef's choice in Japanese restaurants. This restaurant is the best discovery for the longest time, and you have to call to book first, and say you want Omakase as the chef would have to shop diligently for freshest ingredients. paku pakis, blanched cold till crispy with sour chilli sauce, topped with prawn oil butter  8/10 easily my favourite dish, the soup was amazing, 8 hours with 3 different birds/bones as stock, and complements the melt in your mouth cabbage  10/10  slow blanched pork belly, with cucumber and ginger (which gave it a lift)  9/10  crispy chicken skin, the meat was actually fish ... The "Kong Luoi" Debate

This phenomena not only dominates HK social scene but seems to be just as pervasive in Malaysia and Singapore. A few years back,  there have been a huge backlash and debate on the Internet and even mainstream media on the unacceptable attitudes of some HK girls. Girls who fit the description are called "Kong Luoi " (short for HK girls but with a derogatory sideswipe at them). Its a generalisation and not all girls will have all the attributes, but you will recognise them immediately. "Kong Luoi " (KLs) phenomenon was started as the 63.8 incident. What started as a first date went horribly wrong when the couple went into a store, and the girl bought some stuff and it came to HK $63.80. Food Review: Tim Ho Wan

After the initial rush to try Tim Ho Wan having subsided, I managed to secure easily a table with my friends for lunch at their outlet @ One Utama.  Surprisingly, it was half empty on a working weekday at 12.30pm? Where are the crowds? I know One U very well, there are a few towers of offices nearby, you can see them thronging through the mall every lunchtime by the hundreds. I guess I know the reason after looking at the menu prices. (thats the whole menu, exactly 25 items only) They are a bit on the high side in terms of price, and hence its not really something most office workers can have lunch here twice a week cause its going to be between RM30-40pp for dim sum each time. Having said that, the place at Mid Valley is still full during lunch time, and I think thats because we have a lot more tourists, the ladies who lunch, the lepaking executives having "business meetings" there.
